Two of Presca’s Challenge Ambassadors, Jaco van Gass and Stuart Croxford (Team KT18), become first amputee team ever to complete Cape Epic
We are truly delighted that two of our challenge Ambassadors, Jaco and Stuart, who together make up Team KT18, have become the first amputee team ever to complete the hugely demanding Cape Epic mountain bike race. New to Mountain Biking in 2018, Jaco and Stuart took on exactly the same course as the professionals, spending 8 gruelling days in the saddle and overcoming some massive challenges to finish the race, collecting a #ConquerAsOne award along the way.
The Cape Epic is the most televised mountain bike race in the world and the only eight-day mountain bike stage race classed as hors categorie by the Union Cycliste Internationale(UCI). A number of amateur teams also complete the epic challenge, which includes a gruelling 650km course with an elevation gain of 16,660m over the 8 days. It is a super tough race for anyone, but to set out to complete the race as the first amputee team ever was always going to be extraordinarily demanding.
Stuart and Jaco, who sustained life-changing injuries while serving in Afghanistan, are well-known for taking part in incredible challenges. Stuart qualified as a BASI Ski Instructor 4 months post amputation and completed his first full Ironman in 2016 in Mallorca. Jaco is a champion para-cyclist and motivational speaker who has trekked unsupported to the North Pole as part of a record-breaking team of injured servicemen and has summited several mountains. Cape Epic is the first of the challenges Stuart and Jaco have embarked on together with others to follow. They are raising money for the Wigley Support Fund to help Armed Forces personnel with a smooth transition from military to civilian life:https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/wsfepic
We were hugely proud to be Team KT18’s official teamwear sponsor, with Jaco and Stuart racing in our sustainable cyclewear created from recycled plastic bottles and repurposed fishing nets and manufactured in the UK. They had a raft of other brilliant sponsors including: The Wigley Group, Scott Bikes, Moutain Trax, Legacy Education Alliance Inc, Blesma and One Pro Nutrition.
Well done guys, we can’t wait to see what you do next!
