Cardiff cycle workshop is a unique bike workshop, as a nonprofit, they offer very reasonably priced bikes that have been donated by the public and then built up to a very high standard.
What do you specialise in doing?
We specialise in three things, firstly we sell recycled bikes. People donate bike that may have otherwise gone to scrap yard, we repair them and sell them at an affordable price. We also have a really busy repair service, so we have two repair bays running five days a week. We also deliver training courses. We are a non-profit social enterprise, so we offer affordable services to ensure that anyone who wants to cycle can.
Do you offer a warranty?
Our refurbished bikes come with a 3-month warranty, for everything except punctures. The repairs come with warranty's as well.
What's your favourite type of bike?
I've only got three bikes. I have a commuter a gravel bike and a mountain bike. It's very hard to pick a favourite. They are all very different and that’s what makes them good.
As long as it's strong, I don't mind. If I was in a café, it would be a flat white.
How do you guys try and help the environment?
Upcycling. We try and save stuff from going into the waste system. We try to encourage people to buy less new stuff.
Do you offer any discounts?
Because we operate as a non-profit, we pride ourselves on having very competitive prices, so we don’t offer discounts at the moment.
Do you prefer cats or dogs?
Definitely a dog person, and yes, we allow dogs in the store.
They can fix anything! The main appeal to this place is they have very well trained staff, they specialize in keeping bikes on the roads and out of the landfill.
They don't specialize in one area that's what makes them great. If you have a general problem with your bike, they can fix it, and they will keep it affordable as they are a nonprofit.
The staff are lovely and very keen to share their knowledge and passion for the bike. If you want to learn more about the bike, this is the place for you.
The entire business model is designed to upcycle bikes, why should we buy new when the second-hand market is so saturated!
